Anthropic has thrown another heavy punch to feed the growing demand for its Claude. According to insiders, the developer of Claude has signed a six-year, $1 billion computing power agreement with Volta Infra Holdings Ltd., a newly established infrastructure startup, which is the latest step it has taken to meet product demands.

Volta itself is no ordinary company - this cloud infrastructure startup backed by NVIDIA recently announced a $1 billion collaboration with an unnamed AI lab, and it now appears to be Anthropic. More intriguing is the way it is being implemented: Volta will team up with Bitdeer Technologies Group, a Bitcoin mining company that operates data centers, to deploy computing power in facilities located in Norway. In other words, Anthropic is looking to the idle mining capacity in Northern Europe, binding the young infrastructure provider's capacity directly to the cause of Claude through a six-year contract.
