On August 4, Tesla Vice President Tao Lin re-tweeted a plan previously announced by Elon Musk, stating that Tesla will open up the design documents and software of the Model S and Model X to car owners, repair shops, and engineering enthusiasts, facilitating the study of the technical details of these two flagship models and further enhancing product technical transparency and repair support capabilities.

Previously, Musk had announced on April 1st on the X platform that Tesla had stopped accepting new customization orders for Model S and Model X vehicles worldwide. This opening of design documents is seen as an important measure following the gradual withdrawal of these classic models from the core product line.

However, stopping customization of the flagship models does not mean that Tesla is weakening its automotive business. According to official disclosures, the company is further shifting its strategic focus towards "Physical AI." The original Model S/X production lines at the Fremont factory have been dismantled and renovated, and are now used for the production of Optimus humanoid robots, providing manufacturing capacity for expanding the robot business.

In the future, Tesla will continue to increase its investment in areas such as humanoid robots, autonomous driving, and AI chips, while the automotive business will still rely on main models like Model 3 and Model Y as sales pillars. This release of vehicle design documents also reflects that Tesla is gradually shifting its resources from traditional flagship models to AI-driven next-generation smart hardware and robot ecosystems.
