August 11 report, Spotify announced that it will launch the "AI Persona" profile tag system in mid-September, clearly identifying virtual artists generated by artificial intelligence and defaulting to exclude such music from editorial and algorithmic recommendation lists. This is another major upgrade following Spotify's AI music governance policy introduced in September 2025, marking a key step for streaming platforms in addressing the proliferation of generative AI content and protecting original creative ecosystems.

According to the new regulations, starting August 11, 2026, artists can self-disclose via the Spotify for Artists platform; at the same time, Spotify will use algorithms to review popular artists and high-listening volume profiles, automatically identifying suspected AI-generated virtual identities. The "AI Persona" badge will appear on artist homepage banners, search results, and track rows in playlists. Unless users actively follow the AI artist, the platform will not default to recommending such music in personalized recommendations, curated playlists, or algorithmic mechanisms. Additionally, the platform also provides an appeal mechanism and a violation reporting tool to ensure the accuracy of the tags.
Spotify emphasized that the tag targets the "public identity" of artists rather than "creative tools," and does not affect creative technologies such as AI Credits or SongDNA. This move not only clarifies the compliance boundaries for upcoming AI remix and cover functions, but also establishes a clearer governance framework between the rapidly evolving generative music wave and traditional copyright protection, aiming to curb the disorderly expansion of low-quality AI content and re-anchor the core value of human voices and original art in the streaming ecosystem.
