On December 29, 2025, Meta officially announced the acquisition of Manus for over $2 billion. However, on April 27, 2026, the Office of Foreign Investment Security Review of the National Development and Reform Commission legally made a decision to prohibit the investment, requiring the transaction to be revoked. After several months of data and business separation, both parties entered the final stage of the split.
With the return to independence, some user data will be deleted: data generated on December 29, 2025 (the day of Meta's acquisition) and later will be deleted from 08:00 to 24:00 Singapore time on August 23, 2026. Affected users must back up their data through the official tool before 07:59 on August 23. From 08:00 on August 25, they can restore the data; the backup period is free of subscription fees, and after restoration, users will receive a "return reward." Users not affected do not need to take any action. Manus said it has prepared new features and aims to expand the boundaries of the general agent.
