Google is testing a new interface upgrade for the Gemini app, aiming to improve user efficiency in AI assistants by optimizing chat organization, adding notification management, enhancing search filters, and strengthening Gemini Spark management capabilities. These features are not yet officially released, but Android Authority discovered these changes by decompiling the Google app version 17.52.12.sa.arm64.
This update first adjusts the chat management experience. Currently, pinned chats are directly displayed in the "Recent" list within the Gemini sidebar. The new design may place pinned chats above the "Recent" area, making it easier for users to quickly access important conversations. Additionally, Google is testing a new chat search entry, moving the search function to the top of the sidebar and adding a magnifying glass icon.
Furthermore, Gemini may introduce a separate "Notifications" section. In the test version, a bell icon appears next to the search button, which could be used to centrally display task completion reminders, Gemini Briefs, and other activity notifications in the future. Some Gemini tasks already support notification reminders, but they lack a unified management entry. The new feature is expected to improve this experience.
In terms of chat searching, Google is adding filters to the "Recently Used" page, allowing users to quickly locate conversations by status without entering keywords. The filter options found so far include "Unread," "Ready," "Needs Attention," and "In Progress," with the latter two likely related to Gemini Spark tasks.
Regarding Gemini Spark, the always-on AI agent, Google is also developing a new "Customize" page. Users may later be able to discover and manage Spark skills, app connections, and browse recommended content by categories such as efficiency and creativity, while managing connected third-party apps.
Additionally, Google is testing the ability to hide the Gemini status bar icon. Currently, in some scenarios, a four-pointed star icon appears when Gemini runs in the background. The new setting allows users to control whether this icon is displayed, further enhancing the personalization of the Android interface.
Although the final release date for these features has not been confirmed, Google's adjustments show that Gemini is evolving from a simple AI chat tool into a platform integrating task management, app ecosystems, and intelligent agent capabilities.
