On August 24, the "New Forces of Chinese Literature" series of activities for the 21st Changchun Film Festival was held grandly in Changchun. Renowned literary figures, emerging film talents, and experts gathered to jointly explore and promote the mutual empowerment between literature and film.
During the event, several major ceremonies were signed and launched on-site. These included the formal signing of the strategic cooperation agreement for the digital transformation of literary IP and the AIGC transformation of Changying IP, the simultaneous launch of the "AI Shang Jilin" original literary works collection activity, and the release of the "Most Transformable Literary IP List for Jilin Mid-career Writers" for 2026. Among them, 15 outstanding works, including the novel "Apple Pear," the reportage literature "Wang Xixi: No Regrets in Building Space Rockets," and the online literature "There's a Demon Across the River," successfully made the list.
In his speech, Qi Huadong, Vice Chairman of the China Writers Association, pointed out that the current literary landscape in China has far exceeded traditional paper publishing and elite writing. Online literature, amateur writing, non-fiction writing, genre novels, and science fiction are showing a flourishing situation. At the same time, new media such as short videos, short plays, and audiobooks are also competing to shine. The boundaries of literature are continuously expanding into broader living spaces and social fields.
Qi Huadong further emphasized that creators must respect the diverse writing ecosystem while upholding the literary quality of their works, and pool the strength of professional and mass creation. By breaking down media barriers, literature can be more open and integrated into diverse narrative arts such as film, games, animation, and stage plays, thus releasing deeper spiritual energy.
According to industry data, the integration of literature and film is releasing significant market potential. Data shows that among the top 100 most popular and critically acclaimed TV series in 2025, 59% are literary adaptations. Meanwhile, the market scale of online literary IP adaptations in China reached 367.61 billion yuan in 2025, representing a year-on-year growth of 23.13%.
Notably, this year's Changchun Film Festival paid special attention to the exploration of young creative potential, striving to provide a high-level platform for new talents and new works. A total of 36 films were submitted for the "Golden Deer Debut Award"; the "Golden Deer Venture" Youth Film Talent Support Program conducted nationwide work collections; and it also collaborated with multiple universities to carry out a series of activities such as the "University Student Short Film Creation Collection and Exhibition."
Qi Huadong stated that the successful implementation of activities like "New Forces of Chinese Literature" has provided creators with a high-level dialogue platform, which will continue to promote in-depth coordination between literature and film in aspects such as topic planning, content creation, IP development, and talent exchange, ultimately giving rise to more excellent cultural and artistic works with both contemporary value and artistic height.
