According to The Information, NVIDIA is in talks to invest in AI search company Perplexity, with the transaction valuation possibly exceeding $30 billion, more than 50% higher than the company's valuation from its previous round of financing a year ago. Perplexity's annual revenue has grown from $250 million to over $750 million, more than doubling, with part of the growth coming from the launch of the AI agent "Perplexity Computer." This agent can automatically perform multi-step tasks, and the higher token consumption from intelligent agent applications may further boost revenue.

NVIDIA had previously considered directly acquiring Perplexity to gain related technologies and talent. In March this year, Perplexity joined NVIDIA's Nemotron alliance, which aims to promote the development of open AI models. Perplexity has now raised over $1.7 billion in total funding. CEO Aravind Srinivas previously stated that the company is considering going public around 2028.
This potential investment will further strengthen NVIDIA's capital positioning within the AI supply chain. Recently, NVIDIA also reached investments or similar deals with AI model companies Poolside, Groq, and AI chipmaker Enfabrica, with the Groq-related deal amounting to $2 billion and the Enfabrica transaction valued at approximately $900 million. By investing in AI infrastructure and application companies, NVIDIA can expand its AI ecosystem influence and may also generate revenue through purchases of its GPUs and other products by the invested companies.
As AI applications accelerate from chat tools to intelligent agents, NVIDIA is reinforcing its core position in the AI supply chain through dual strategies of capital and computing power ecosystems.
