Google has recently made a major version upgrade to its voice-activated assistant Gemini Live, officially moving it from a single natural language conversation tool to a new phase focused on productivity scenarios and intelligent agent (Agent) workflows. Since its launch in 2024, Gemini Live has continuously expanded its functional boundaries and now supports more than 40 languages, with deep integration into multiple Google applications. The core of this update lies in fully enhancing task execution, cross-application collaboration, and personalized service capabilities.
The most eye-catching change in this upgrade is the integration of Gemini Live with Google's intelligent agent system, Spark. Users simply need to describe their needs through simple voice commands, and Spark will handle complex multi-step tasks behind the scenes across various services such as Google Docs, Google Sheets, Google Drive, and websites. For example, users can verbally express scattered ideas to Gemini Live and ask Spark to automatically organize them into an outline for a Google Docs document; or have the assistant maintain a weekly meal plan and automatically generate a shopping list based on recipes saved in Docs.
To further align with daily office needs, Gemini Live has also added a new feature called "Daily Brief." Users just need to issue relevant instructions to receive a voice summary integrating important information from Gmail emails and Google Calendar. At the same time, the updated system has added the ability to operate Gmail without using hands. Users can not only search and summarize email content through voice commands but can also directly perform a series of actions on emails, such as starring, archiving, or deleting them.
In terms of personalized experience and context understanding, previously each conversation with Gemini Live was basically independent, unable to carry over previous conversational context. After this update, Gemini Live can combine previous conversation content and information from connected services such as Gmail, Google Photos, Google Search, and YouTube to provide more personalized responses that fit user habits. Google pointed out as an example that Gemini Live can first summarize recent schedules in Gmail and then seamlessly hand over subsequent tasks to Spark, such as creating corresponding calendar events in Google Calendar and automatically adding estimated driving times.
In terms of subscription access and pricing models, using Gemini Spark-related features requires users to subscribe to Google AI Pro or a higher-tier subscription service; while the "Daily Brief" feature requires at least a Google AI Plus subscription.
