Recently, Google has confirmed that the Google Assistant on Android phones will be gradually discontinued starting September 4, with eligible users being migrated to Gemini. Google previously notified users via email, and the migration process is expected to last several weeks, with some users possibly experiencing a brief delay, but ultimately all users will lose access to Google Assistant. Google originally planned to discontinue the service by the end of 2025, but it was postponed due to the need for further improvements to Gemini. Now, Google believes that Gemini is ready to fully take over.
This adjustment affects more than just phones; smartwatches, earphones, and Android Auto will also switch to Gemini, as the intelligent features of these devices depend on the phone. Most Google smart home devices have already been migrated; Android-powered TVs, set-top boxes, and cars with built-in Google services are currently unaffected and will undergo system upgrades later, with specific dates yet to be announced.
For older devices that do not meet Gemini's minimum requirements, and for regions where Gemini service has not yet been launched, Google Assistant may remain available for a while, but most users are expected to lose access within the next one to two months.
