Meta announced the launch of a new AI agent called Muse, which can perform various tasks on behalf of users. Muse will run on a dedicated cloud-based virtual computer and will be available to users aged 18 and older in the United States, accessible through Apple iOS, Android, the Muse website, and WhatsApp; it will also be launched on Instagram and Facebook in the future and integrated into Meta's AI glasses.
According to the introduction, Muse is powered by Meta's latest AI model, Muse Spark 1.3, and can seamlessly call other applications under Meta's umbrella, as well as access services from Ticketmaster, OpenTable, and Google. Users can set a name and avatar for Muse, adjust the way it communicates; even if the application is closed, Muse can continue working in the background to achieve the set goals.
Meta said that users can share some "bold life goals" with Muse, such as "losing the beer belly" or "becoming a better father," and Muse will remember this information and proactively offer suggestions based on it. In a demonstration case, Muse automatically filled out a parent consent form required for a school field trip.
In terms of privacy and security, Muse will record completed actions and planned tasks, and will not share data with Meta's advertising system; before performing any sensitive or important actions, Muse will confirm with the user multiple times. Meta will offer both a free version and a paid version, and users with higher needs can upgrade to a monthly package of $20 or $100 to get more computing resources. Ultimately, Meta plans to provide Muse to the billions of users of its social applications—by the end of the second quarter of this year, Meta's social platforms had 3.6 billion daily active users (DAP).
Alexandr Wang, Meta's Chief AI Officer, said one of the design principles of Muse is "to make it truly easy to use and simple enough for ordinary users." He said he is also using Muse to manage daily tasks, get fitness advice, and plan his diet, and has come to see it as his "second brain."
