Hong Kong-listed company Bawang Group announced today that its special shareholders' meeting passed a general resolution to appoint Chen Hang as a non-executive director with 100% votes in favor, which will take effect immediately after the meeting. Chen Hang's current term will continue until the end of the current board term and can be re-elected. His annual salary is 100,000 RMB, and no additional meeting allowances are given - a figure that seems surprisingly low for a veteran entrepreneur who once oversaw DingTalk within Alibaba's system, and more like a symbolic position.

The disclosed resume outlines his two-decade journey: Chen Hang is 49 years old, with over 20 years of experience in enterprise internet products, artificial intelligence, and the digital economy. He served as CEO of DingTalk (China) Information Technology Co., Ltd. from March 2025 to June 2026; earlier, from 2014 to 2020, he led the team in developing enterprise-level intelligent collaboration products as the founder of DingTalk and served as CEO. Between 2021 and 2025, he founded Two Hydrogens One Oxygen (Hangzhou) Digital Technology Co., Ltd.; from 2020 to 2021, he served as an assistant to Zhang Yong, Chairman and CEO of Alibaba Group. Earlier, he was the product manager of Alibaba's "Laiwang" and Tao Tao, and before that, he was responsible for designing and developing enterprise-level search engines at HP Japan. He received a Master's degree in Business Administration from Tsinghua University in 2024.

This new appointment came just three months after he left DingTalk. In June this year, a 75,000-word resignation letter titled "Inside DingTalk" circulated on social media, putting DingTalk's high-intensity management style under the spotlight. On June 8, Ma Ruilah, vice president and AI product head of DingTalk, published a long article titled "Outside DingTalk," announcing that he had officially resigned in mid-May, stating that it was increasingly difficult to determine whether he was creating products or exhausting his body to keep up with the pace. On June 10, Alibaba's Partnership Committee posted an internal article titled "With Feelings, Loyalty, and Growth, That's the Alibaba Culture," sharply criticizing DingTalk's management style, stating that it did not reflect Alibaba's culture. The next day, Alibaba announced a management adjustment at DingTalk, with Chen Hang (Wuzhao) stepping down as CEO of DingTalk, replaced by Chen Yushen.

The new position is taken by Bawang Group. Established in 2015, the company is based on real transaction data and tax expertise, using AI to drive business decision-making and smart execution, positioning itself as a "business decision-making large model and tax token factory." It has formed three core segments: compliance technology, financial technology, and credit technology. The group has over 3,000 enterprise clients and covers about 33.45 million growth-oriented clients. The Tax-Swift overseas tax compliance and e-invoicing platform has covered over 50 countries and regions. It also deeply participates in national projects such as the State Taxation Administration's "Golden Tax Project" and the National Public Data Resources Registration Platform, providing digital solutions to over 2,900 large enterprises, including China Petroleum, Industrial and Commercial Bank of China, China Nuclear Group, and China Ping An, serving over 30.7 million growth-oriented users.

For Chen Hang, moving from CEO of DingTalk to a non-executive director of a tax AI company represents a complete career shift; while for Bawang Group, bringing in a veteran who understands enterprise products, AI, and To B organizational strategies into the board is clearly not just for the 100,000 RMB annual salary.
