According to media reports, Anthropic is in the early stages of negotiations to lease up to 1 gigawatt (GW) of computing power from Apollo Global Management-owned data center developer. This is seen as one of the major steps for this AI company to reduce its reliance on cloud vendors.
If the deal is finalized, Anthropic will directly control a significant amount of computing power, no longer solely relying on third-party cloud platforms for allocation. The current negotiations are still in the early stage, and the final leasing scale, duration, and specific developer have not been determined yet. However, the goal of "up to 1 gigawatt" has shown Anthropic's strong demand for its own computing infrastructure. Some insiders said that Anthropic is also negotiating with Google for credit guarantees for this project. However, it is currently unclear which part of the project Google will be responsible for.
