At the 2026 Snapdragon Summit, Qualcomm partnered with PrismML to successfully run a 2-billion-parameter 1-bit quantized Bonsai vision model on the Snapdragon AR1 Gen 1 smart glasses platform, enabling AI glasses to perform image recognition and answer questions even when offline.

1-bit Quantization, Memory Only One Quarter of 4-bit Models

The Bonsai 1-bit model is built upon PrismML's previously released Bonsai 1.7B version, compressing the model's precision to 1-bit to reduce the memory required for storage and inference. According to the official statement, it can accommodate about four times the parameters in the same memory capacity, with memory usage being approximately one quarter of traditional 4-bit models, and text token generation speed doubling.

Improved Offline Interaction for Battery Life and Wearability

In real-world scenarios, the official stated that AI interaction no longer requires connecting to the cloud and waiting, but can be completed locally in scenarios such as identifying objects in front of you, translating text, answering environment-related questions, and providing voice assistance without using hands. The 1-bit model can also reduce memory and power consumption, thereby extending battery life and reducing heat, improving the overall wearing experience—this is particularly crucial for smart glasses with limited size and heat dissipation capabilities.
