OpenAI recently released its first usage report for teenage users of ChatGPT, which shows that the average daily usage time for teenage users is less than 15 minutes. Less than 2% of users used the service continuously for more than 3 hours, and half of the users paused or ended the conversation within 5 minutes after receiving a break reminder.
Currently, OpenAI is continuously enhancing the features of the dedicated version for teenagers, with a focus on adding interactive modes related to education and learning. In the future, the platform will also introduce services such as college application planning tools, study cards, and quick quizzes to help students organize the application process and academic planning.
Security warnings spark controversy, official response on delay reasons
However, a third-party organization, Common Sense Media, released a report indicating that the ChatGPT teen mode has delays or fails to notify in sensitive topics such as suicide and self-harm. Testing showed that the system did not reliably send alerts to parents or provide professional assistance recommendations like psychological crisis intervention hotlines in a timely manner. In response to this concern, OpenAI officially stated that the tests did not accurately reflect the actual operational logic of the system. Due to the time required for system connections and security protection to take effect, some tests may have ended before the functions were fully activated.
