Recently, Perplexity announced the release of its agent intelligence browser, Comet, in beta version. Currently, it is only available for testing to some Apple Silicon Mac users. Early users have already received invitations this week, and Perplexity encourages them to provide feedback on bugs and feature suggestions to help drive product development.

The Comet browser aims to reimagine the web browsing experience through context-aware intelligence. It personalizes responses based on a user's browsing history and currently open tabs, with all such information stored locally and not used for model training. Additionally, Comet integrates Perplexity’s core search functionality on every webpage, allowing users to query, summarize, or explore content via the sidebar without switching tabs.

In AIM’s tests of the browser, it was found that Comet supports importing data like bookmarks and passwords from Google Chrome. During the test period, the browser could accept user instructions via the "Comet Assistant," enabling users to open or close tabs, group tabs, close duplicate tabs, check shopping carts, and even help find unread emails, among other tasks, using either voice or text commands.

Upon launching the browser, AIM noticed that Comet has an ad and tracker-blocking feature. Users can choose to disable this function when setting up preferences. In any webpage, users can access the Perplexity Assistant by clicking the "Ask" button in the URL address bar.

Moreover, the Comet browser particularly emphasizes improving user productivity. The invitation email mentioned use cases such as analyzing inboxes, preparing for interviews, and generating meeting minutes, aiming to "save users several hours per week."

Perplexity stated that although the product is still under development, they are releasing improved versions daily. "We are pushing out improvements to the product experience every day and look forward to your feedback," the email read.

It should be noted that screenshots of the beta version may change and do not necessarily reflect the final Comet browser interface. Currently, the closed beta version is limited to macOS, and no broader availability or Windows support information has been disclosed yet.
