ECOGEN: A New Deep Learning Method for Generating Realistic Birdsong

Researchers from the University of Moncton, Canada, have developed ECOGEN, an innovative method that can realistically generate birdsong using deep learning technology. ECOGEN transforms recorded birdsong into spectrograms, creating new artificial intelligence images to provide a more comprehensive dataset for rare bird species with limited recordings. The study found that adding the synthetic birdsong samples generated by ECOGEN to identification tools improved birdsong classification accuracy by an average of 12%.
