Nvidia has recently engaged in a series of collaborations with local businesses in India to promote its artificial intelligence chips and technologies. The CEO of the American chip design company, Jensen Huang, announced at an AI summit in Mumbai that Nvidia has partnered with one of India's most valuable companies, Reliance Industries, to co-establish the infrastructure for AI applications. Additionally, tech company Tech Mahindra will use Nvidia's chips and software to develop a Hindi AI model called "Indus2.0."

NASA's Interagency Implementation and Advanced Concepts Team (IMPACT) is jointly developing INDUS, a suite of large language models (LLM) aimed at fields such as Earth science, biological and physical sciences, heliophysics, planetary science, and astrophysics, through signing Space Act agreements with private, non-federal partners. The model is trained using curated scientific literature from diverse data sources.

Tech Mahindra has launched Project Indus, an open-source language model aimed at Indian languages, which may be the company's most significant project to date. The model will initially support 40 dialects of Hindi languages, with a parameter scale expected to reach 7 billion. The model is projected to serve 25% of India's population. Collecting data for different languages and dialects remains the biggest challenge. Tech Mahindra is gathering datasets through language donation channels and collaborating with various stakeholders.
