This engine moves away from the traditional framework where NPCs are guided by decision trees and pre-written scripts, allowing developers to endow each NPC with a set of motivations, rules, and goals to determine how NPCs respond to players. This technology can be integrated into existing games or serve as the foundation for new games, aiming to generate more realistic NPCs through AI.

Decentraland has partnered with AI company Inworld to introduce AI-driven NPC characters in their virtual world. Three AI NPCs with unique personalities and conversation styles have been installed in the Genesis Plaza of Decentraland.
