Facing Meta's large-scale recruitment of senior researchers, OpenAI's Chief Research Officer Mark Chen sent an internal memo to team members last Saturday, emphasizing that the company's leadership is actively responding.

In a Slack memo obtained by Wired magazine, Mark Chen wrote that he felt "someone broke into our house and stole things," clearly expressing his concerns about the talent drain. According to previous reports from multiple media outlets, eight researchers have moved from OpenAI to Meta in the past week. OpenAI CEO Sam Altman even complained on a podcast about Meta offering "a $100 million signing bonus," although Meta executives internally refuted this claim.

Regarding Meta's aggressive hiring campaign, Mark Chen said that he, Altman, and other OpenAI leaders have been "continuously talking to people with job offers." He emphasized that the company is currently "more proactive than ever" and is "revising compensation and looking for creative ways to recognize and reward top talent," aiming to retain core talent and cope with the increasingly fierce competition for talent.
