Recently, the UK's digital regulator Ofcom released a striking report exploring gender-based differences in online behavior. The report indicates that men significantly outpace women in the use of generative artificial intelligence (AI) and online dating platforms.

According to the survey, about 50% of men reported using generative AI in the past year, while only 33% of women did the same. Meanwhile, 29% of women indicated that they are unfamiliar with generative AI, and 30% stated that they do not know how to use the technology.

In discussions about AI, ethical concerns are a significant topic. Ofcom's survey found that women are more worried about the potential risks of AI, with 17% expressing concerns, compared to only 11% of men. Additionally, regarding the future impact of AI, 64% of women expressed worries, while the percentage for men was 55%. Recently, Amazon stated that AI could add trillions of dollars to the global GDP, highlighting the importance of ensuring women's participation in the use of AI.

Men's engagement in the use of dating platforms and adult websites is also significant. The survey revealed that 65% of men reported visiting dating websites, whereas only 35% of women did. Among the top ten dating platforms, only Hinge had more female visitors than male. As for adult websites, 43% of men reported visiting such sites in May 2024, while only 16% of women did. On average, men spent 1 hour and 44 minutes on these sites, compared to 1 hour for women.

When it comes to accessing online news sites, the gender ratio is relatively balanced, with 49% male and 51% female visitors. However, men spent an average of 4 hours and 49 minutes on these sites, while women spent 3 hours and 28 minutes.

The situation changes with health and fitness content. Data shows that 88% of women visited health and wellness websites, compared to 80% of men. Among visitors to the NHS website, 57% were women, while 43% were men. This is closely related to women's greater focus on health and more frequent medical visits.
