Qualcomm has officially released its new Snapdragon AR1+ Gen processor, designed to provide stronger support for smart glasses. Compared to the previous Snapdragon AR1 Gen1 chip, although the performance improvement of the new processor is only marginal, its biggest highlight is the direct support for device-side artificial intelligence. This means that users can enjoy convenient AI services just by wearing smart glasses without relying on smartphones or the cloud.

The size of the Snapdragon AR1+ Gen1 is smaller, with an area reduction of 28%, which allows the height of the glasses' frame to decrease by 20%. In terms of power consumption, this new processor can reduce energy consumption by 7% in key applications such as computer vision, voice activation, Bluetooth playback, and video streaming. This improvement not only enhances battery life but also ensures that users can enjoy a high-quality experience for a longer period while using smart glasses.

Qualcomm stated that the device-side AI supported by the Snapdragon AR1+ Gen1 has the advantage of personalization. Since it can process based on locally stored user data, the processor can provide more customized responses and recommendations. At the same time, since tasks are handled locally, users' sensitive data and preferences can be better protected. In contrast, reliance on cloud services is not only more costly but may also pose privacy risks.

In addition, Qualcomm specifically mentioned the collaboration with Meta on the Ray-Ban smart glasses and the Orion AR glasses prototype, calling them the future direction of smart glasses technology. The launch of the Snapdragon AR1+ Gen1 chip is expected to drive the market for increasingly slim AI+AR glasses, which will combine advanced AI models and optimized design parameters to provide users with higher-quality visual experiences.

As an important milestone in the field of smart glasses, Qualcomm's new processor will undoubtedly open up more possibilities for future AI applications and enhance user experience.
