[AIbase Report] Recently, China's first vertical large model for tunnel and underground space fields was officially launched, developed by the Tunnel Boring Machine and Intelligent Operation and Maintenance National Key Laboratory of China Railway Tunnel Group. The model is based on massive engineering data, aiming to promote the digital and intelligent transformation of the tunnel construction industry.

Technical Core and Functional Breakthroughs

The head of the development team introduced that the core technical system of the model is using a general large model to schedule small models, driving applications in vertical fields. Based on 773 engineering lines and 120 billion engineering construction data, it has built a "scenario + AI" digital and intelligent feedback empowerment technical system covering the entire life cycle of tunnels and underground spaces.

The model integrates multiple innovative functions, including:

  • Tunnel Hero AI Assistant: An interactive tool that provides industry popular science, professional Q&A, standard queries, text translation, and assistance in preparing construction plans and organization.

  • New Paradigm for Digital Decision-Making: By breaking through large model alignment and fine-tuning technologies, the model has developed a series of knowledge and data-driven small models, achieving intelligent decision-making in multiple fields such as tunnel design BIM visualization, construction evaluation, equipment selection, and operation perception and interpretation.

Applications and Future Prospects

Currently, this vertical large model has been verified in several major national projects, including high-altitude railway tunnels, Chongtai Yangtze River Tunnel, and Shenjiang Railway Pearl River Estuary Tunnel. Its application results have achieved safety, quality, efficiency, and greenness in tunnel construction, bringing significant digital transformation and upgrading to the industry.
