Anthropic recently announced the highly anticipated "memory feature" for its Claude AI chatbot, allowing the system to extract and retain user background information from previous conversations, such as job, age, educational background, and communication style, so that in subsequent conversations, users do not need to repeat themselves and can receive more tailored responses.
This feature means that Claude AI will no longer "forget" users' jobs and project progress, enabling seamless transitions between different sessions, referencing previous discussions, continuing thoughts, and deepening ideas. Users can also set up separate backgrounds for different projects, achieving a separation between work and personal life, and switching flexibly.
Currently, the memory feature is available on the web version, desktop version, and mobile app of Claude AI, but it is only available to some paid subscriptions, including Claude Max, Claude Team, and Claude Enterprise. Claude Pro will be supported later, while free users will have to wait patiently. Users who meet the criteria can enable this feature in the "Settings - Search and Reference Chat" option in their profile.
Notably, the memory mechanism of Claude AI differs from that of ChatGPT - ChatGPT allows users to manually set background information, while Claude AI relies on automatically extracting content from historical records, which may lead to different user experiences.
