Recently, Opera released its second-quarter 2025 financial report, showing strong performance growth. During the reporting period, Opera's revenue reached $143 million, a significant increase of 30% year-over-year. The first half of the year saw cumulative revenue of $286 million, an increase of 35%. This growth was driven by AI-powered advertising business and the recovery of the search business.
Opera's main revenue comes from three major segments: advertising, search, and technology licensing. Among them, the advertising business performed particularly well, with advertising revenue reaching $92.9 million in the second quarter, an increase of 44% year-over-year, accounting for 65% of total revenue, becoming the company's most important growth engine. This growth mainly came from the expansion of AI-driven intent advertising, especially in the e-commerce field. Opera can accurately capture user needs through enhanced intent recognition, improving the conversion rate of advertising services. In addition, Opera optimized the efficiency of ad loading, using native AI features to enhance user experience, further driving the growth of advertising revenue.
At the same time, Opera's search revenue also showed positive growth momentum, reaching $49.6 million in the second quarter, an increase of 11%, marking the recovery of the search business from the adjustment period. By optimizing product localization strategies, especially strengthening privacy protection in the European and North American markets, Opera attracted more users with high willingness to pay, thereby increasing search revenue sharing.
In terms of user ecosystem, Opera maintained a stable global average monthly active users (MAU) of 289 million, while achieving a 35% year-over-year increase in user ARPU (average revenue per user) to $1.97. In particular, the user growth of Opera GX, the gaming browser, was significant, with MAU reaching 33 million, an increase of 11%, supporting the increase in advertising and search revenue.
Notably, the Opera Neon smart browser launched by Opera in the second quarter of 2025 marked the company's transformation from a traditional browser vendor to an "AI agent browser." This browser can actively understand user needs and provide predictive services, and is expected to drive an increase in user penetration in the future.
Looking ahead, Opera stated that, driven by e-commerce and AI intent recognition, the advertising business still has a potential annual growth of 15%-20%. With the launch of Opera Neon and the commercialization of other value-added services, Opera is expected to enter a new growth cycle in the AI ecosystem, successfully transforming from a traditional browser vendor into an AI-driven platform.
