Google's AI note-taking tool NotebookLM has received a major update, with its Video Overviews feature now supporting over 80 languages, including French, German, Spanish, Japanese, and various Indian languages such as Hindi, Tamil, and Marathi.
This update was officially announced on August 26, 2025, marking an important step forward for NotebookLM in terms of globalization and inclusivity.
From English to Multilingual: The Evolution of Video Overviews
The Video Overviews feature of NotebookLM was first launched in July 2025, initially supporting only English, allowing users to convert notes, PDFs, and images into intuitive video presentations. This update expands language support to over 80 languages, covering major global languages, significantly reducing language barriers. Whether students reviewing lecture notes, researchers summarizing complex academic reports, or professionals organizing project documents, users can now generate video content in their native language, including charts, citations, and key information. Google stated that this feature aims to help users quickly grasp core concepts through visual summaries, saving time on information filtering.
Audio Overviews Get a Synchronized Upgrade for a Richer Experience
At the same time, the Audio Overviews feature of NotebookLM has also been optimized. Previously, non-English audio summaries were relatively brief, providing only summary information. Now, the depth and details of non-English audio overviews are on par with the English version, allowing users to receive more comprehensive audio explanations while still being able to choose a concise highlights version for quick browsing. AIbase believes that this upgrade not only enhances user experience but also further highlights the potential of NotebookLM as a multimodal learning tool, suitable for scenarios requiring handling multilingual materials, such as cross-border team collaboration or multilingual course learning.
Google announced that the above updates have been rolled out globally starting from August 26, 2025, and are expected to cover all users within a week. In the future, NotebookLM may further integrate with other productivity platforms and add more regional language support to meet the diverse needs of education and professional fields.
