Amazon recently announced the launch of a new AI feature called Lens Live, which allows users to scan items around them in real-time using their phone's camera, easily find matching products, and purchase them directly on Amazon. This feature is currently available only in the iOS version of the Amazon shopping app.

With Lens Live, users can move the camera freely around the room or point it at specific items for scanning. Amazon stated that this feature uses advanced object detection models to identify products captured by the camera in real-time and compare them with Amazon's extensive product database. When similar products are found, Lens Live will display them in a swipeable format, allowing users to conveniently add the products they are interested in to their cart or wish list.

Notably, Lens Live is integrated with Amazon's AI assistant Rufus, which can summarize product descriptions and answer related questions from users. This new feature is an advancement of Amazon's existing visual search function, which already supports product searches through uploading images, scanning barcodes, or taking direct photos.

This convenient shopping feature is seen as a competition with Google's Gemini Live. The latter also allows users to scan items in their environment and ask for related information, but Amazon's Lens Live places more emphasis on the presence of the "Buy" button, aiming to enable users to shop more quickly.

Currently, Amazon said that Lens Live will be gradually rolled out to more users in the coming weeks, allowing them to experience this new way of shopping.
