In the current aggressive artificial intelligence infrastructure arms race, another major company's financial data has drawn intense market scrutiny. According to the latest analysis and second-quarter earnings report disclosed by venture capitalist Tomer Tunguz blog (VC Analysis), SpaceXAI saw its total capital expenditure surge to $18.37 billion in the previous quarter. Most of this funding was directly used for AI, amounting to $15.83 billion, a single investment that has approached 40% of Microsoft's total capital spending during the same period.

Compared to traditional tech giants such as Amazon, Alphabet, Microsoft, and Meta, SpaceXAI's rate of fund consumption is particularly noteworthy. However, the source of funding supporting this massive expenditure presents a completely different picture. Data shows that Microsoft and Meta mainly rely on their strong operating cash flows to cover capital expenditures, with capital expenditure coverage rates of 155% and 106%, respectively; while SpaceXAI's operating cash flow can only cover 12% of its capital expenditures, with the large investment heavily relying on external debt and equity financing.

This high-cost spending model combined with a relatively fragile cash flow situation has begun to generate a chain reaction in the capital market. Since hitting its stock price peak in mid-June, SpaceXAI's stock has experienced a significant decline, not only falling below the $135 IPO offering price but also nearly halving from its peak. At the same time, multiple large-scale bonds issued by the company have also fallen below face value in the secondary market, reflecting concerns in the credit market about the company's long-term debt repayment capability and high capital costs.

Although it has made rapid progress in underlying computing power and large model development—for example, successfully training the Grok 4.5 model and demonstrating strong industry competitiveness—facing continuously high capital expenditures, how to accelerate commercialization of the AI business and establish a financially self-sustaining loop has become the most severe practical challenge facing SpaceXAI.
