Google recently announced that its AI-powered search experience "AI Mode" will support five new languages, including Hindi, Indonesian, Japanese, Korean, and Brazilian Portuguese. This update allows more global users to enjoy the convenience of AI search, which was previously limited to English users after more than six months of testing.

According to Google, the launch of AI Mode is intended to help users ask complex questions in their familiar languages, thereby exploring online content more deeply. Hema Budaraju, Vice President of Product Management at Google, mentioned in a blog post that this expansion will allow more people to use AI Mode in their preferred languages, enhancing the search experience.

AI Mode was initially launched as an experimental project in March for Google One AI Premium subscribers, aiming to compete with AI search platforms such as Perplexity and OpenAI's ChatGPT. The feature uses a customized version of Gemini 2.5, which has multimodal and reasoning capabilities.

In August, Google introduced smart features in AI Mode, allowing users to book restaurants, and plans to support local service reservations and event ticket bookings in the future. Currently, these updates are only available to Google AI Ultra subscribers in the United States, and users can experience them through the "Smart Features in AI Mode" in the lab. The cost of the Ultra subscription is $249.99 per month.

So far, users can access AI Mode through a dedicated tag on the search results page and a button in the search bar. It seems that Google is moving towards making this AI-driven search experience the default setting. Logan Kilpatrick, a product manager at Google DeepMind, mentioned this when responding to a post on the social platform X last week.

However, some recent AI updates from Google, including AI Mode and AI Overview, have faced criticism, with concerns that these new features might affect website traffic. Despite this, Google denied last month that its AI search features were reducing website click-through rates.
