Another acquisition has been announced in the AI design circle. Today, Visual Electric, an AI design startup backed by Sequoia Capital, announced that it has joined the search newcomer Perplexity. However, the outcome of this acquisition is somewhat "bitter" — the product will be completely shut down within 90 days.

The company, founded in 2022, announced on its official website that the team will join Perplexity's newly established "Agent Experience" department. Aravind Srinivas, CEO of Perplexity, later confirmed the acquisition on the X platform, but both parties have remained silent about the transaction amount.

The founding team of Visual Electric is impressive: Colin Dunn previously worked at Facebook and Dropbox, Adam Menges came from Apple, and Zac Stiglitz was a former Microsoft engineer. The tool they developed targets the design community, with core features allowing users to generate and edit images using AI on an infinite canvas. In simple terms, it digitalizes traditional whiteboard brainstorming — designers can quickly build creative prototypes and concept proposals on it. Later, the product added video generation capabilities, aiming to create a more complete creative workflow.
