At the OpenAI DevDay event held in San Francisco on Monday, CEO Sam Altman said during a Q&A session with journalists that the company's latest personalized feature, ChatGPT Pulse, is his "favorite feature so far," and shared his thoughts on Pulse's potential and the future of its business model, especially the possibility of advertisements.

Pulse is OpenAI's latest attempt for ChatGPT, aiming to position the chatbot as the starting point for users every day through deep personalization. This feature allows ChatGPT to learn about users by accessing their history and connected apps, such as calendars and emails, and then conduct research overnight to provide users with a "pulse" summary about these topics every morning. These "pulses" can include daily personalized exercise plans, language courses, news summaries, and even recommendations for restaurants on the night before. Altman hopes users will start each day with ChatGPT.

Regarding the business model, Altman and his executive team confirmed during the Q&A that the company is discussing the possibility of introducing ads in Pulse, although Altman emphasized, "**there are no plans right now." However, he later said he "likes Instagram ads" and did not rule out the possibility of introducing similar relevant ads in Pulse in the future." Altman added, "In some way, we can find some cool things that are really helpful to users... maybe there are some things we can do, but as clearly stated, we are very cautious about ads."

The executive team revealed that although the team initially planned to roll out Pulse to all users, due to the high computational demand of the feature, it is currently only available to Pro users. This highlights the high demand for computing resources of this personalized service and explains the initial restrictions on its audience.
