Google Meet has recently launched AI-powered virtual makeup filters, offering a new option for users who don't want to put on makeup before meetings. This feature helps Google Meet narrow the functional gap with Microsoft Teams and Zoom, which previously supported virtual makeup effects.

The feature offers 12 different makeup styles for users to choose from, located in the "Appearance" settings under the "Portrait Enhancement" section. In fact, Google Meet introduced the portrait enhancement feature as early as 2023, which included basic beauty effects such as skin smoothing, reducing dark circles, and brightening the whites of the eyes.

In terms of technical implementation, Google emphasized that these virtual makeups have strong facial tracking capabilities. Even if users make movements such as drinking coffee in front of the camera, the filters can accurately adhere to the face without shifting or attaching to objects like cups, ensuring realistic and stable visual effects.

From a user experience perspective, this feature is turned off by default and can be manually enabled before or during a meeting. Once a user selects a particular makeup style, the system will automatically save this preference and apply it to future meetings, reducing the hassle of repeated operations.

This AI makeup feature has been gradually rolled out on mobile and web platforms since October 8th. For users who frequently attend video conferences, this feature provides a new balance between maintaining a professional image and saving preparation time.
