Recently, OpenAI announced that starting from November 4th, all users in India will be eligible for a free ChatGPT Go service for one year. This decision coincides with OpenAI's first DevDay Exchange event held in Bangalore.

The ChatGPT Go was launched in India in August this year as a subscription plan aimed at providing users with broader access to advanced features. This free usage opportunity will be available to all Indian users who registered during the promotion period.

According to OpenAI, ChatGPT Go users can enjoy higher message sending limits, more image generation per day, additional file and image uploads, and longer memory functions, all made possible by OpenAI's latest GPT-5 model.

Nick Turley, Vice President and Head of ChatGPT at OpenAI, said: "Since the launch of ChatGPT Go in India a few months ago, we have witnessed encouraging user creativity and adoption. As our first DevDay Exchange event approaches, we hope to help more Indians easily access and benefit from advanced artificial intelligence by offering a free 12-month usage opportunity."

India is the second-largest market for ChatGPT and one of the fastest-growing markets. OpenAI noted that the number of paid users in India doubled within the first month after the launch of ChatGPT Go. Currently, the company has expanded the Go plan to nearly 90 markets worldwide.

For users who have already subscribed to ChatGPT Go, OpenAI stated that they will also be eligible for this free 12-month promotion, with details to be announced later.

OpenAI stated that this move is to support its commitment to "India-first" and aligns with the Indian government's IndiaAI mission. Additionally, the company is collaborating with civil society organizations, educational platforms, and government-led initiatives to expand access to AI tools and promote inclusive innovation across the country.

Meanwhile, OpenAI plans to establish an office in New Delhi. Recently, Dario Amodei, CEO of Anthropic, met with Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi to discuss the company's expansion plans in India and announced that it would open a new office in Bangalore.

Airtel, India's leading telecom operator, has also launched a one-year free Perplexity Pro plan, further promoting the popularity of AI technology in India.
