Gartner released its first "Magic Quadrant for AI Application Development Platforms," with ByteDance's Volcano Engine ranking first in the "Challengers" quadrant, leveraging the Doubao large model and the Volcano Ark platform. It also ranked fifth globally and first in China in the "Implementation Capability" dimension. The report highlighted its strengths in a complete closed-loop of models, tools, computing power, and scenarios, having helped top clients in consumer, finance, energy, and education sectors rapidly build multimodal applications.
In terms of data, Volcano Engine's market share for large model services on public cloud in China during the first half of 2025 reached 49.2%, meaning that one out of every two Tokens in China comes from its platform. In September, the Doubao large model processed an average of 30 trillion Tokens per day, representing a 253-fold increase compared to May 2024. Gartner also ranked it first among Chinese vendors for "Strategic Completeness," placing it alongside Alibaba Cloud and Tencent Cloud in the Challengers quadrant, competing against global leaders such as Google and Microsoft.
Volcano Engine stated that it will continue to expand investment in the multimodal application toolchain and leverage large-scale Token data to feed back into model iteration, maintaining its leading position domestically and accelerating overseas expansion.
