Spotify's CEO, Gustav Söderström, revealed during the company's fourth-quarter earnings call that the company's most senior developers have not manually written any code since December 2025, with all code generated by AI and engineers only responsible for supervising the AI-generated code. Söderström views this as a positive signal for the industry's development.

It is reported that Spotify has implemented an internal development system called "Honk," which integrates generative AI technologies such as Claude Code, enabling real-time remote code generation, repair, and deployment, significantly revolutionizing the development process. Engineers can issue instructions to the AI through their mobile phones via Slack during commutes, completing tasks such as fixing iOS app vulnerabilities and adding new features. New versions can be directly pushed to the platform, and engineers can complete the release before arriving at work. This model has freed developers from tedious coding tasks, allowing them to focus on creative design and requirement management.

In his speech to investors, Söderström stated that the development of artificial intelligence has become an inevitable trend, not a matter of choice. Although the transition to AI-powered development has not been without challenges, Spotify will fully promote this transformation. This model has already shown initial results, with Spotify completing over 50 new features and product changes in 2025 using AI toolchains, demonstrating the core productive value of AI in software development.
