When artificial intelligence technology is used for "illicit purposes," legal consequences are inevitable, though delayed. Recently, the Shanghai police cracked a highly representative new type of crime: a man used AI technology to alter medical records and invoices, and made malicious claims against multiple restaurants. This case not only sounds the alarm on the abuse of technology but also demonstrates the infiltration of the AI black industry into daily life.

The case began when a restaurant in Yangpu District of Shanghai received a consumer complaint. The man claimed he had "food poisoning" after dining at the restaurant and quickly presented detailed hospital records and medical bills, demanding 2000 yuan in compensation.

Initially, the merchant chose to pay to avoid further trouble, but later found that other merchants had also encountered similar "scripts." The police investigation revealed the truth. The man had no medical records; he collected real medical records posted by netizens and used AI image processing technology to precisely alter them, generating a set of realistic fake medical records and invoices.

Since his first successful use of AI to fabricate evidence for compensation in November last year, the man saw it as a "fast way to make money." Within a month, he carried out similar acts against four restaurants. As his courage grew, the amount of compensation he demanded increased each time. By the time the case was uncovered, he had illegally earned 2500 yuan. He has now been subjected to criminal compulsory measures by the police.
