Spanish startup Xoople has recently raised $130 million, bringing its total funding to $225 million. The company aims to create a satellite constellation designed to serve artificial intelligence applications by mapping the Earth. This constellation will rely on Xoople's EarthAI platform, built on Microsoft Azure, which focuses on collecting precise real-time data from the Earth's surface to support the growing demand for intelligent agent AI systems.
Xoople was founded in 2019 and, after seven years of development, has been dedicated to building a continuously updated layer of geophysical change data to support machine learning. The company plans to bring its technology to market this quarter. Currently, Xoople is able to access satellite imagery from government agencies such as the European Space Agency and convert this information into datasets that can be used for environmental monitoring and risk prediction.
With the latest funding, Xoople hopes to sell its self-developed satellite data for Earth observation. In a statement, the company noted that the constellation will expand enterprises' access to intelligence from the physical world, thus driving innovation in artificial intelligence and intelligent agents. Although the specific launch date of the satellites has not been determined, Xoople's CEO Fabrizio Pirondini said, "Every major computing era produces new record systems, and the companies that define these systems will become the economic centers of their time."
The company views its technology as a reliable and transparent channel for accessing data, especially in a context where enterprises are increasingly relying on intelligent agents and autonomous agents. Monitoring and managing these systems has become particularly important. The effectiveness of artificial intelligence often depends on the quality of its training data, and proprietary datasets that connect digital systems with the physical world (which Xoople calls the "Earth Record System") are gradually becoming a key competitive advantage.
Xoople states that these systems will drive transformation, enabling artificial intelligence to interact more safely with the physical world. Potential application areas include government agencies and large enterprises needing to optimize supply chains, infrastructure, agricultural forecasting, resource planning, insurance risk modeling, and urban planning. Additionally, the company has reached an agreement with U.S. aerospace and defense contractor L3Harris Technologies to develop sensors for its satellite constellation.
