NVIDIA announced the release of the world's first open-source quantum AI model, named "NVIDIA Ising." This innovation aims to address two critical challenges in quantum processors: calibration and quantum error correction, promoting the practical application of quantum computing technology.
The "NVIDIA Ising" model series mainly consists of two important parts: Ising Calibration and Ising Decoding. Ising Calibration is a visual language model with 35 billion parameters that can automatically perform continuous calibration, significantly reducing the time required to process measurement data, from days to just hours. Ising Decoding provides two 3D convolutional neural network models, optimized for speed and accuracy respectively. This model achieved 2.5 times the speed and three times the accuracy of the industry benchmark pyMatching in real-time decoding for quantum error correction, while requiring only one-tenth the training data.
Notably, "NVIDIA Ising" has been adopted by multiple research institutions and companies around the world, including IonQ, Harvard University, and Fermi National Accelerator Laboratory. It not only helps with quantum processor calibration but also provides essential support for building hybrid quantum-classical systems.
The name "NVIDIA Ising" comes from the "Ising model" in statistical mechanics, which helps people better understand ferromagnetism and phase transitions. By combining quantum computing with artificial intelligence, NVIDIA is opening up new possibilities for the study and application of complex physical systems.
The newly released quantum AI model not only enriches NVIDIA's open model ecosystem but also complements models from other fields such as NVIDIA Nemotron (agents), NVIDIA Cosmos (physical AI), NVIDIA Alpamayo (assisted driving), NVIDIA Isaac GR00T (robotics), and NVIDIA BioNeMo (biomedical research), collectively driving technological advancement.
