Recently, serious compatibility issues have emerged between the AI coding tool Claude Desktop and Microsoft's March security update KB5079473, causing many users to report numerous obstacles during installation and operation. Users have voiced their concerns on social platforms like Reddit and developer communities, stating that the tool has encountered critical problems in installation, operation, and authentication. The most obvious issue is failed installation.

Many users, after downloading from the official Claude website, found their systems automatically redirected to the Microsoft Store, but no official version of Claude Desktop was available there. Even if they bypassed the installation barriers, the Cowork collaboration feature in Windows 11 Home Edition crashed directly due to lack of Hyper-V virtualization support. Many users had to restart their systems repeatedly to get the application running again, while some even enabled the Windows Developer Mode and allowed sideloading, yet still struggled with stability.

On the Windows 10 platform, compatibility issues caused the Task Manager to crash unexpectedly. More seriously, the Claude Code VS Code extension performed poorly in the WSL environment. When generating more than 600 lines of code, the system was forcibly terminated due to excessive memory consumption. Technical analysis shows that after the KB5079473 update, Claude Code triggered the system's OOM Killer when the heap memory consumption reached 4.6GB in WSL2.

Faced with such severe flaws, Anthropic's response has sparked widespread doubts. The company stated that since Claude for Linux was not tested for compatibility in the WSL environment, several key bugs were marked as "not planned for repair" and discussions were locked. This decision has disappointed developers, who believe this approach is highly irresponsible for enterprise IT environments relying on the Windows platform.

As of now, Anthropic has not issued any official statement regarding this incident, nor has it provided a repair timeline. Users are caught between hope and disappointment.
