Global renowned website building system WordPress has officially released the 7.0 version, codenamed Armstrong. As the first major update for creators, businesses, and developers in 2026, the new version's biggest highlight is the native integration of artificial intelligence capabilities, marking the official entry of web building into the intelligent era.
This upgrade has been developed by more than 875 contributors, bringing over 420 feature enhancements and bug fixes. The official defines this version as the starting point of a new stage, by restructuring the backend interface and development tools, to provide users with a more unified and smooth website building and editing experience.

Native AI Empowers Content Creation
The new version includes an AI client in the core architecture, allowing the system to communicate seamlessly with various generative AI models. Combined with newly introduced capability interfaces and AI plugins, users can now directly generate and edit images, automatically write article titles and summaries, and even一键补充图片替代文本 (easily replace text with images) in the backend.
In addition to improvements on the server side, the new version also introduces a client-side capability package, integrating an interactive interface and command panel through JavaScript on the front end. This innovative design provides website administrators with a richer hybrid AI experience, greatly simplifying the process of producing and polishing web content.
Backend Visual Upgrade and Responsive Optimization
In terms of interface management, WordPress 7.0 adopts a more modern management theme, unifying visual elements such as the admin page header, customizer, and color picker. The system also adds smooth view transition effects, providing users with a smoother visual experience when switching between backend pages.
Regarding the increasingly important mobile experience, the new version grants site owners greater autonomy, allowing users to fully customize the hamburger menu overlay on mobile devices. At the same time, the responsive editing function has been enhanced at the underlying level, enabling editors to directly decide the display and hiding of specific blocks on desktop or mobile without writing any custom code.
