According to overseas tech media 9to5Mac, a report suggests that Anthropic may adopt Apple's Digital ID digital identity system for nationality and identity verification of Claude large model users, in order to meet U.S. AI export control compliance requirements. This information has not yet been officially confirmed by the two companies.
Apple had previously launched a digital ID service in the iPhone Wallet, supporting electronic storage of U.S. passports, and enabling electronic driver's license entry in different regions. In addition to airport security scenarios, Apple intends to expand this digital identity system to more online verification scenarios.
Due to U.S. model export control policies, two of Anthropic's large models, Fable 5 and Mythos 5, have been completely suspended, preventing both overseas users and foreign users in the U.S. from accessing them. If the platform completes effective identity verification, only U.S. citizens will be allowed to use these two models, which could lead to their reactivation.
Currently, Claude only enables Persona identity verification for risky fraud accounts, but does not implement real-name authentication for all users. Since Anthropic has already integrated Apple's age verification API, there is a foundation for cooperation, leading industry speculation that it may choose Apple's Digital ID to quickly build a compliance verification channel.
This solution has obvious limitations: only iPhone users and those holding U.S. passports or corresponding regional electronic driver's licenses can use it, which would filter out a large number of users. However, as a short-term temporary compliance measure, Apple's digital identity remains a relatively fast option.
Key Points:
🆔 Reports suggest that Anthropic may integrate Apple's Digital ID, used for verifying the nationality and identity of Claude users, to comply with export control requirements.
🚫 Due to regulatory policies, two of its large models have been completely suspended, and they are expected to be reactivated only after completing identity restrictions.
⚠️ Apple's digital identity verification has device and document regional barriers, but it is fast to implement and serves as a short-term compliance alternative.
