Samsung Electronics plans to apply ChatGPT and Codex across multiple business processes, including R&D, manufacturing, marketing, and other corporate functions, to enhance employee productivity and problem-solving capabilities. The introduction of ChatGPT will help employees complete knowledge-based tasks more efficiently, such as information retrieval, analysis, document writing, creative development, and data interpretation. ChatGPT Enterprise offers enterprise-level features, ensuring that organizations can protect data, manage users and access permissions, and implement security controls when using AI safely and effectively. This enables Samsung Electronics employees to fully leverage advanced AI technologies within the company's security policies and governance framework.

Codex was initially designed as a tool for software development, but as its applications expanded, its role in improving productivity for non-technical teams has become increasingly evident. Employees can use Codex to turn ideas into actual software, internal tools, websites, and automated workflows. Currently, over 5 million users use Codex weekly for both technical and non-technical workflows, and active Codex users in South Korea have grown by nearly 800% since February 2026.

Kim Hee-seong, General Manager of OpenAI South Korea, said: "This historic deployment is especially important because Samsung Electronics, as a global leader in technology and manufacturing, is viewing AI as a core platform for enhancing employee work and innovation, not just limited to certain teams or functions." OpenAI will also work closely with Samsung Electronics to help employees quickly put their ideas into practice, solve complex problems, and develop new products and services while using ChatGPT and Codex.

Previously, Samsung Electronics and OpenAI had already begun collaboration in the global AI infrastructure sector, with Samsung Electronics providing advanced memory semiconductors for next-generation AI infrastructure. As the adoption of ChatGPT Enterprise progresses, the cooperation between the two companies continues to expand, covering employee transformation and company-wide AI applications.

In South Korea, Seoul National University recently provided free access to ChatGPT Edu for its 47,000 community members, including students and staff, to support its transition to an AI-native campus. At the same time, OpenAI also collaborated with Kakao, allowing users to directly ask ChatGPT questions and receive answers in KakaoTalk groups, bringing ChatGPT into a widely used daily communication platform in South Korea.
