Microsoft announced on September 12 that it has officially introduced the Grok model from SpaceXAI into Microsoft 365 Copilot. This model is now available in Word, Excel, and PowerPoint components as part of the Microsoft Frontier project's limited preview, offering access to specific customers to evaluate its practical effectiveness in common office tasks.
Since last year, Microsoft has gradually shifted away from its over-reliance on a single model from OpenAI, integrating the Claude series from Anthropic into product lines such as Copilot Studio, Researcher, and Excel.
The addition of the Grok model from SpaceXAI marks a key step for Microsoft in deepening its multi-model architecture. In terms of data compliance and security controls, SpaceXAI has been included in Microsoft's list of online service sub-processors. Enterprise IT administrators must explicitly enable the relevant features to gain access, and they maintain full visibility and control over data processing throughout. Additionally, this service will not be available to Frontier users in the EU, European Free Trade Association countries, and the UK during the preview period.
Microsoft previously conducted responsible AI reviews and safety validations on Grok, marking a significant step forward in enterprise AI software moving toward a highly customizable, multi-model ecosystem, rather than being locked to a single supplier.
