Xiaopeng Auto announced on August 27 that its Xiaopeng Robotaxi, equipped with the second-generation VLA large model, has officially started fully driverless road testing. It has also obtained the remote testing qualification for intelligent connected vehicles in Guangzhou and can conduct autonomous driving tests on relevant first-, second-, and third-level test roads in the city.
According to the introduction, since the employee internal testing of Xiaopeng Robotaxi started in June this year, it has completed more than 2,000 internal test orders within two months, verifying the complete process from online order placement, vehicle pickup, to trip services. (17173News) Previously, Xiaopeng has been advancing product development, testing, and operation system construction for the Robotaxi business and plans to further promote driverless passenger operations.
The second-generation VLA large model equipped in this Robotaxi is a multimodal AI model developed by Xiaopeng for the physical world, integrating visual, language, and action decision-making capabilities. It can be used in embodied intelligence scenarios such as autonomous driving, Robotaxi, and humanoid robots. This model achieves on-vehicle deployment of large models through collaborative optimization of "chip—compiler—model" and improves perception and decision-making capabilities in complex environments.
As autonomous driving technology evolves from driver assistance to high-level intelligent driving, Robotaxi has become an important direction for car manufacturers to explore AI commercialization. Xiaopeng's advancement in driverless testing indicates that its autonomous driving technology based on large models is entering a larger-scale road verification stage, which will further promote the application exploration of physical AI in the transportation field.
