"After Journey to the West" is currently the first AIGC long drama in China, produced by Mango TV, created by the Mango TV AIGC Innovation Content Center, and co-produced by Bojing Culture.
The drama is adapted from the homonymous mythological novel written by an anonymous author during the late Ming and early Qing dynasties. The first season consists of 30 episodes, each lasting 40 minutes. "After Journey to the West" is one of the three major sequels to "Journey to the West." The original novel tells the story of the "second generation of the Journey to the West" who reunite due to misunderstandings about the true sutras. The drama integrates the original framework of forty chapters with relevant clues and hints from the original "Journey to the West," building a complete narrative system for the "After Journey to the West."
The story is set one thousand and eighty years after Sun Wukong's ascension to sainthood: the sutras retrieved back then have become incomplete and misunderstood, leading to the emergence of a small stone monkey (Sun Xiaosheng) on the immortal mountain where the Monkey King once arose. The ten elders, whose names were erased from the Book of Life and Death, mysteriously disappear during a celebration, bringing serious crises to Flower Fruit Mountain. Thus, the new monkey king Sun Xiaosheng embarks on a journey of growth and awakening. He investigates the truth behind the failure of the Book of Life and Death, faces various trials in the underworld and heavenly palaces, and eventually joins forces with Tang Banji, Zhu Yijie, Sha Mi, and others, embarking on a second journey to retrieve the sutras.
