With the fall flagship smartphone and watch发布会 concluded, Apple's hardware updates for the home living room entertainment scenario are also about to be launched. According to reports, Apple plans to quietly launch a new generation of Apple TV set-top box at some point this fall. The new product will fully integrate into the Apple Intelligence ecosystem and drive a next-generation Siri AI assistant with deep contextual understanding capabilities, powered by a significantly upgraded underlying chip architecture.
First major upgrade in four years, upgrading chips for on-device large models
This is the first major upgrade since the release of the Apple TV 4K equipped with the A15 Bionic chip in 2022. The core breakthrough lies in the generational leap in underlying computing power. To meet the hard requirements for local smooth operation and low-latency inference of on-device large language models, the new generation of Apple TV will completely abandon the old chips, jumping to a new generation of Apple Silicon processors with higher specifications of unified memory.
In terms of functional experience, the focus of the upgrade is on the comprehensive transformation of Siri. For a long time, Siri on Apple TV has mainly been limited to mechanical title searches, fast-forwarding, rewinding, and simple weather queries. After being empowered by on-device AI models, the new Siri will have the ability to understand context-based conversations, retrieve ambiguous semantics, and connect intentions across multiple multimedia applications. Users no longer need to accurately remember the title; they can simply issue complex natural language commands like "Find me a suspense movie where the main character is fleeing in a red sports car on a rainy night," and the system can accurately aggregate and match across major streaming platforms. It can even provide dynamic customized recommendations based on the viewing history and preferences of family members.
Enhancing the whole-house smart hub, possibly available within weeks
In addition to the evolution of audio-visual interaction, the new generation of Apple TV will also strengthen its position as a whole-house smart hub. Combined with support for the new generation of smart home protocols, Thread and Matter, the new set-top box with an AI brain can more autonomously coordinate and schedule all connected devices in the house: for example, by learning users' daily routines and changes in ambient light, it can automatically dim the living room lights, close the electric curtains, and optimize the sound field calibration of the home theater audio system when the user gives a movie-watching command.
Regarding release strategy and pricing, industry analysts expect Apple is unlikely to hold a large-scale event for this product, but rather prefer to suddenly launch it through official press releases and online stores within the next few weeks on a certain weekday.
