Meta has officially announced the launch of Muse Voice and video chat features for its consumer AI agent Muse to U.S. users, marking a major step forward in its rollout of multimodal AI interaction and consumer-grade virtual avatars.

The feature uses a new AI model, along with Muse Realtime Avatar and Muse Realtime Voice technology, to provide users with customizable animated digital avatars for real-time calls and video interaction.

The feature first debuted at the Meta Connect developer conference in September, aiming to bring users and AI agents closer through anthropomorphic avatars.

Meta says Muse avatars can display subtle expressions and gestures that match the tone of a conversation while speaking. Although it does not have visual perception, it can respond in real time based on voice input. Currently, the real-time conversation feature is fully supported on mobile devices, the web, and Mac platforms.

The launch of this feature is an important part of Meta's consumer AI strategy. The company plans to launch a portable wearable device similar to a Tamagotchi by the end of this year, bringing digital avatars to small hardware screens and further expanding the use cases for AI assistants. In the future, the feature will also gradually arrive on Meta AI glasses and the upcoming Muse Charm hardware device.

Industry analysts believe that Meta is accelerating the transformation of cutting-edge multimodal large models into everyday consumer products with emotional connection and task-processing capabilities, further intensifying competition in generative AI for personal devices and emotional companionship.
