November 2 news: SpaceX CEO Elon Musk said that although an era of AI abundance will eventually arrive, Grok Bot still cannot provide unlimited-use service at this stage. Responding to user feedback last Sunday local time, he said that Grok Bot's service costs are too high relative to revenue and difficult to sustain, so adjusting usage limits is a rational choice.

Grok Bot was launched by SpaceX in August this year. It is an AI agent that relies on a virtual computer to perform tasks such as shopping, and offers multiple subscription tiers from a free version to $200 per month (about 1,332 yuan). All plans have usage limits that reset weekly. Similar mechanisms have also been adopted by AI agents such as Meta's Muse, mainly to control the computing costs brought by heavy usage.
Last weekend, many users on X reported that Grok Bot's weekly quota was being consumed noticeably faster. In response, Musk said that whether users think the price increase for upgrading to a higher-quota plan is too high, and lowering the quota while notifying users in advance, are both issues that need to be considered.
SpaceX's financial report last month disclosed that Grok Bot's paid weekly active users have reached 800,000. Musk previously called it the fastest-growing product he had ever seen and predicted that in the future Grok Bot may consume the vast majority of the company's superintelligent computing power. This also reflects that as AI agents rapidly expand their user base, they still face the challenge of balancing inference costs and commercial revenue.
