Goodbye to the tedious era of manually searching for songs and artists, Spotify is trying to let AI take over your playlist completely. Spotify announced on Monday that its highly anticipated "AI Prompted Playlist" feature is now officially available to Premium subscribers in the UK, Ireland, Australia, and Sweden.
This feature allows users to customize playlists by entering natural language instructions. Unlike traditional keyword searches, users can describe an atmosphere, a scene, or even a specific memory. AIbase reports that whether it's "melodies like walking on the streets of London on a rainy day" or "retro style inspired by an obscure movie," Spotify's AI can accurately understand and generate matching tracks.
To make the experience more transparent, each song generated by the system comes with a brief explanation indicating why it was selected. Additionally, users can continuously refine their prompts based on AI feedback to optimize the list, and they can also set up automatic updates so that the playlist "evolves on its own" according to daily or weekly changes in taste. Since this feature is still in the Beta testing phase, some users have reported a daily usage limit of 20 to 30 songs.
In addition to front-end product innovations, Spotify's internal development model is also undergoing a major transformation. Its co-CEO said that thanks to the popularity of AI coding tools, the company's top developers haven't written a single line of code since last December. This comprehensive AI transformation, from the underlying development to the end-user application, is helping Spotify continue to lead in the global streaming competition.
