Recently, the European Central Bank held an emergency meeting to discuss the cybersecurity risks caused by the new AI model, Claude Mythos, launched by Anthropic. According to a report from the Financial Times, the meeting was held on Tuesday local time, mainly to address the potential threats that Claude Mythos poses to the global financial system.

Claude Mythos is believed to be capable of identifying high-risk vulnerabilities in the information systems of financial institutions, which has caused great concern among global regulators. Eriksson, vice president of the European Central Bank, stated in an interview that cybersecurity issues have been discussed for years, but with the development of AI technology, the urgency of solving these problems has become more evident. He emphasized that previous response measures were too slow, and now it is necessary to accelerate efforts.

At the meeting, Eriksson expressed regret that European banks had not yet obtained access to Claude Mythos and hoped that U.S. banks that have already used the model would share their experience and information. In terms of the deployment of special software patches, Eriksson urged banks to speed up updates because once a vulnerability is exposed, malicious actors may quickly exploit it.

Currently, many financial institutions around the world have applied to Anthropic for access to Claude Mythos in order to enhance their cyber security defenses. Anthropic stated that although most access rights are mainly granted to U.S. companies, they also plan to provide relevant technical briefings to other institutions, especially senior officials of the Financial Committee and the European Commission.

This unexpected meeting reflects that, in the face of a changing technological environment, global regulatory authorities are taking faster and more effective measures to ensure the safety and stability of the system. As time goes on, Eriksson emphasized that financial institutions cannot use the excuse of not having model access rights and must take proactive measures to prevent potential cyber attacks.
