The leading startup in the AI-assisted programming field, Anysphere, recently announced at the Compile26 company event that its well-known IDE tool Cursor will launch its first fully self-trained artificial intelligence foundation model, while also introducing a new Git platform called "Origin" and an iOS beta version of the mobile application. This series of actions marks Cursor's official transformation from a single code editing tool into a comprehensive developer ecosystem platform for both humans and AI Agents.
According to co-founder Michael Truell, this new foundation model was entirely independently trained by the team from scratch, completely moving away from the previous "Composer model" based on open-source foundations. The model has a parameter scale comparable to Anthropic's Claude Opus and OpenAI's GPT series, with a lower-level computing power 10 to 20 times that of the previous Cursor model.
Notably, the application scenarios of this model are not limited to programming itself but aim to serve broader non-coding areas. In terms of underlying computing power support, Anysphere was previously acquired by SpaceX, and both parties jointly conducted the training of this model. The training is still ongoing and is expected to be officially released in the coming weeks.
In addition to the core large model, Cursor also launched the next-generation Git platform "Origin," designed specifically for collaboration between humans and AI Agents. This platform, led by co-founder Tomas, who joined the team through the acquisition of Graphite, runs on a brand-new cloud-native Git architecture. During extreme pressure tests, Origin successfully passed the challenge of thousands of AI Agents simultaneously reading and writing the same code repository, demonstrating the ability to independently resolve merge conflicts, fix CI test failures, and handle code comments. Currently, Origin is running within the company and among some partners, with plans to be fully launched in autumn 2026.
To further expand the ecosystem, Cursor also launched the iOS beta version of Cursor Mobile. This app allows users to remotely control and manage AI Agents running locally or in the cloud anytime, anywhere, view and comment on screenshots generated by the AI Agent, and assist in resolving stuck tasks. From the full autonomous large model to the construction of the Origin Git platform, and then to the opening of the mobile entry point, Cursor is reshaping the collaborative paradigm of software development. This indicates that AI is not only generating code but also accelerating the reengineering of the underlying version control systems and development processes, marking a critical stage in the engineering implementation of large-scale AI Agent collaboration.
